Description
The study of the various tiers of the ruling classes in Medieval India has attracted the attention of a number of scholars in post independence period. It has been recognized that there was hierarchical structure in medieval Indian polity. A distinction has also been made in the indigenous hereditary ruling classes and the Muslim ruling elite which superimposed itself over the indigenous ruling classes with the establishment of the Delhi Sultanat.
