DESCRIPTION

Fig. 58: DARGAH QADAM SHARIF, by a Delhi artist, 1820-25. The drawing is of the Dargah Qadam Rasul or Qadam Sharif, the Court of the Print of the Prophet's Foot, showing figures seated in the courtyard. Originally, Firoz Shah Tughluq constructed the monument as a tomb for himself and then his son Fatch Khan who died in 1376, and added a stone with a footprint of the Prophet Muhammad, which Firoz Shah had brought in from Mecca. It is enclosed by massive walls in typical Tughluq style. A mosque and a madrassa round out the inner tomb complex. Watercolour, 26 x 36.5 cm. British Library, London, Add.Or.547.
