DESCRIPTION

Humayun's Tomb, by a Delhi artist, c.1820. The tomb of Humayun is set slightly off-center in this drawing to accommodate also the small nearby tomb known conventionally as the Barber's Tomb. Departing from convention, here the monument is depicted in a landscape with figures and is typical of the new type of drawings which developed in Delhi under the influence of the picturesque style of English prints and watercolurs, particularly as transmitted through the work of artists such as Sita Ram and the Fraser artist.
