At the commencement of the year i had determined on writing a brief historical sketch of the meerut Mutiny,and the various phases of the disturbances during 1857,under the belief that the general history of this most important epoch in our British Indian annals might best hereafter attained,by combining such threads of narrative drawn by separate writers in every district affected by the revolt
