Description

THE discontents of the Coast Army, and the unfortunate events to which they progressively led, have been shewn to the Public, in detail, through the ordinary channels---the newspapers of the metropolis. It therefore appears unnecessary, that the Editor of the following (Letters should give a particular account of the rise and course "of the disaffection, and the consequences which it entailed. These have been traced with much minuteness in various publications, taking distinct views of the transactions, according to the different notions entertained by’ the writers of the causes in which they originated. Some, favoring the administration of Sir G. Barlow, ascribe the unhappy events that have occurred, to the mad and mutinous spirit of the army; while others, owning a contrary sentiment, impute every act of the Army to the endless provocations of the Governor. The different partisans, as might be expected in such a contest," maintain their several opinions with warmth at least, if not with prudence.
